Free Hi Hat Rolls Fl Studio

  1. Free Hi Hat Pack

What’s up everybody. Today I’m going to be showing you guys how to create some crazy, creative hi-hat patterns. So if your hi-hats look like this:

Then you have come to the right place. So the thing with creating crazy sounding hi-hats is that you always want to make sure that it sounds kinda like the chaff grenade from Metal Gear Solid. But ALWAYS make sure that it’s on point with the tempo and everything (If that’s what you’re going for). So open up your piano roll and let’s get going.

Once you have your piano roll open, punch in whatever you think you want to start off with. Right now I just have 2 regular hi-hats:

Hat

Now I want to add some different timing to the hi-hats. Make them sound crazier. In order to change the timing on the piano roll grid simply click the magnet picture on the top left of the PR window:

  • This free pack contains 49 hi-hat loops ranging from lo-fi to crisp sound. Each loop is 8 bars and has two tempo variations for your convenience; slow and fast, meaning there’s a total of 99 catchy loops (one includes a third variation.).

“Line” is what they have selected by default. The ones that I regularly use are “Line”, “1/3 Step”, and sometimes “1/6 Step” . Let’s click on “1/3 Step” for the sake of this tutorial. After those 2 hi-hats we just put in, I’m going to add 6 hi-hats in that small bar using the “1/3 Step”:

After we’ve added those, go back to the “Line” snap and throw in three more hi-hats the same length as the first two. Then you should have something that looks a little like this:

Now here is where we spice things up. Add one more regular sized hi-hat but put it an octave down. Go back to “1/3 Step” and add 6 hi hats the length of two grid-squares. Lower the last hi-hat an octave down. If your grid has 4 grid-squares instead of two, zoom out; ya dingus. It should look like this:

So after that, while you’re still on “1/3 step”, zoom in kind of close, and put in 24 hi-hats down. Put 24 more hi-hats down except lower them one note (B4). It should look like this:

See those vertical lines at the bottom of the piano roll screen? That controls the velocity of the hats. At the top of the piano roll window it says the name of your hi-hat and velocity by default. If you click on the velocity tab thing you can choose what you would like to edit from that screen, like the panning, velocity, fine pitch, and release:

So try it out when you can! For now just leave it on velocity. For the hats on the regular C5, fade them out. Go from where the hats velocity regularly starts, then go lower until about halfway. Then for the other hats on B4, go from that halfway point until where the original velocity starts. I’m sorry I can’t really word it right but just look at the picture and that should help you understand what I just said. Once you finish it should look a little something like this:

So after that’s done, Just go on “1/3 step” again and do this:

Now you have a crazy ass hi-hat pattern! Congrats. Ya weirdo.

You can hear the beat and the hi-hats we made for this tutorial here

Here are the hi-hats in FLP format along with the hi hat I was using in the tutorial. I was using FL Studio 10 FYI. Here Ya Go
